Metals

Many metals used in our home are mined in the rainforest.

Aluminium - Door and window frames, electricity

Copper            - Water pipes, hot water tanks, electric wires

Iron      - Nails, radiators

Lead    - Flashing o n roofs

Zinc      - Paints

Steel     - Steel is made from iron with carbon added to make it stronger. Stainless steel has nickel and chrome added to stop it from rusting. Steel is used to make window frames, nails, screws, supports for roofs, door and windows. It is also used to make cutlery, pots and pans, sinks, taps etc.
