“Peace
One Day” Mozyr, Belarus
On 1st August, we had an interesting and
informative meeting with the Director of Education, Ms. Luba Klepchukova and
senior educationalists of the city of Mozyr, Belarus.
In
association with A Ray of Hope it was agreed that the staff and students of
Mozyr participate in “Peace One Day” and in doing so contribute to the
global effort of raising awareness and the desire for a culture of peace. The
Mozyr project will begin on 1st September culminating on 21st.
It will take the form of a global message involving over 10,000 children and
teachers.
This is intended to be the first of many programmes of
study which the Director would like her students to become involved in. An
innovative advancement to increase the level of technology in schools is planned
and will assist schools to communicate more widely. The photograph shows the

Mazyr (Belarusian:
Мазы́р; Russian:
Мо́зырь) is a
town in the Homiel
Province of Belarus
on the Pripyat
River about 210 km east of Pinsk
and 100 km northwest of Chernobyl.
The population is 111,770 (2004 estimate). The total urban
area including Kalinkavičy
across the river has a population of 150,000. Mazyr is known for as a center of
oil refining, machine building, and food processing in Belarus. It is home to
one of the largest oil
refineries in Belarus, pumping out 18 million metric tons per year. The
right bank of the Pripyat
River, where the city is located, is elevated above the left bank at
