In the village, there is one school, with four teachers, who teach primary and secondary national syllabus’s, covering Portuguese language, geography and history, science and mathematics.  They teach morning and late afternoon classes, (due to the heat of the day) with a break in-between.  Education materials are given by the government.  Food is given, at times, by the mayor of the nearby town.  Its arrival, variation and quantity also varies with political campaigns.  If students wish to pursue their education, then they have to move to the City.  This is dependent on whether they have family with whom to live in the City, or a job, where they will work as house cleaners in return for accommodation and food.  As always, this change in lifestyle causes enormous changes on their futures.
