In Northern
Ireland where I now sit I seem to have brought the sun of Belarus
home with me as I did with many more memories of the country I
love.
I would like to proffer my warmest thanks and appreciation to all
those who made my visit so memorable. Time spent in Belarus gives
me a plethora of thoughts on how the world should be organised and
what more I can do to make my life better.
As so many in Belarus will not have travelled abroad it is
therefore to people like me they must rely on for an honest
opinion of how their lives compare and, more importantly, the many
jewels that can be found with them. Mozyr is an Aladdin's Cave of
jewels.
I have many impressions but what comes to the fore each time I
visit is the commitment of teachers and what can be achieved when
dedicated pedagogues lead children desirous of knowledge.
The music schools were wonderful - the art schools impressive -
the day schools a credit to the education system of Mozyr - but
all will forgive me when beyond comparison I mention the school
for orphans - how can children with so many disadvantages be
brought to have such smiles - such confidence - such charisma -
maybe the secret of Mozyr - of Belarus - can be found there.
In Mozyr the potential of children is realised - what an
investment for the future of Belarus, I never need presents when I
visit - yet I am swamped with them - what I adore is the
friendship and hospitality extended to me and hope that I can
experience that for many years to come.
When people are brought into this world they are lucky to have a
few heavenly moments yet through Belarus I have many none more so
than to have been asked to be the Godfather of Darya. The people
of Mozyr give me more than I can ever repay but that will not
prevent me trying to. I will try to be a good ambassador and
inform as many as I can of the riches to be found on the banks of
the Pripiyat,
It is difficult for me to find words at times to express how I
feel and even though I may repeat myself it should be seen not as
repetition but enforcing my sentiments. With Easter being later
this year I was also given the opportunity of witnessing the
International Festival - "The Earth under White Wings" -
and what a very special honour that was. A Festival that any city
in the world would be proud of and I am sure that the successes of
this wonderful event will emanate from Mozyr for many years to
come. Take care my
friends and thank you.
