These achievements have occurred since Kabubbu Community
Library opened in Februrary 2003, and belong entirely to the people of
Kabubbu. The Librarians, Library Committee and
local volunteers have worked hard to deliver these achievements. The
Community has responded with enthusiasm and commitment.
Bi-weekly literacy classes, at 4 different levels, have
attracted 206 committed students
Visit to an eye clinic, for the literacy students
Progress tests prepared and carried out in order to give
feedback to the literacy students
The reading Library attracts approx 50 readers a day
Community meetings and suggestions box to gather community
views
Local teacher volunteers to deliver numeracy classes as a
result of community requests
Confidence building with the literacy students so they able to
participate in a literacy competition
Organising a Literacy Competition
which attracted 88 particpants and 400 spectators of all ages.
Stock Take of the books
Regular and proactive communications
with UK partners including reports,
photographs and suggestions
Building a network of local contacts including local schools
which provided material for the progress tests
Building a network of international contacts by becoming
members of UNAL, affiliating to UNESCO Youth Ambassador for the
Culture of Peace, and communicating with the World Libraries
Partnership
Planning for future sustainability
Vickie believes that these are outstanding achievements for a library
which has only been open 6 months in an under developed rural area.
