Kabubbu is an
impoverished rural village in Uganda, where the people are isolated from
the information they need to develop. At the beginning of 2002 Kabubbu was
without clean water, a school, a health clinic, electricity,
communications and transport. Meagre community resources were
overwhelmed by AIDS orphans, which make up 10% of the 6000 people living
in Kabubbu. The people felt hopeless and regarded themselves as the
'forgotten people'.
In 1999 The Quicken Trust visited Kabubbu and were motivated to tell the story
of these people in the UK. Since then many people have donated money
through the Quicken Trust who have worked, in partnership, with the Kabubbu
Development Project to provide clean water, a health clinic, a school and
sponsored education for orphans. Quality craft products made in
Kabubbu have been sold in the UK to raise money which is used to start
agricultural co-operatives to enable the people to improve their
nutrition.
The Kabubbu Development Project is a registered Non Governmental
Organisation in Uganda (Registration number: S.5914/3602).
The Quicken Trust is a registered charity in the UK (Charity number: 1058747).
